The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has declared that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, had proved to be an outstanding governor who churned out projects, pays salaries and pensions, when other states are failing.
This came as Wike assured the people of the state that he would maintain the tempo of projects delivery and initiation of pro-people programmes.
Both leaders spoke yesterday at Woji Town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area where Makarfi inaugurated the Dr Frank Eke Road (Former Woji Road).
While inaugurating the road,
Makarfi said: “Most of what we hear from other states is that they cannot pay salary or pension. But what we hear from Rivers State is dignitaries coming to commission projects.
“Rivers State is working, PDP is working. Rivers State will continue to work, PDP will continue to work “.
He declared that if elections were conducted a million times in the state, Wike would still emerge victorious because of his pro-people leadership.
He said the Dr. Frank Eke Road he unveiled was executed in line with international standards, stressing that it will be of benefit to the people.
He said the leaders of the party were working to consolidate on the unity within the PDP.
In his address, Wike, stated that his decision to reconstruct the Dr Frank Eke Road was as a result of the pledge he made while campaigning in the area.
He said the road was awarded by the immediate past administration which failed to mobilise the contractor.
He said the PDP was the only party that keept its promises. He said while others give excuses, the PDP and her officials deliver.
He said: “There is no more crisis in the PDP. That is why the Caretaker Committee Chairman is here to commission this project.”
Also speaking, the Works Commissioner, Mr Bathuel Iheanyichukwu, stated that the ministry is happy to be associated with a governor that is performing.
He said the road was 4.7 kilometres in length and has created access to several areas in the local government area.
The event attracted thousands of residents and traditional rulers from Woji Town, Rumurolu, and Rumours a communities.
Addressing journalists at the side lines of the event, the Paramount Ruler of Woji Community, Eze Emes Ihunwo, said the community would forever remain grateful to Wike for reconstructing the road which was almost impassable for more than eight years.
He said the economy of the community had received a boost by the new road and commended the governor for the project.
“Our people are grateful to Governor Nyesom Wike for making our lives easier and making us feel the dividends of democracy,” he said.
