Reps Kick over Delay in Appointing New Post-Master General

Dele Ogbodo in Abuja

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Communications Technology, Mr. Saheed Fijabi, on Thursday kicked against the delay by the federal government in appointing a new Post Master General (PMG) of the federation, three months after an interview was conducted by PriceWaterHouse and Coopers in conjunction with the Ministry of Communications Technology.

Speaking at the sideline during an oversight visit to the headquarters of the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) in Abuja, Fijabi, who led the committee members, wondered why the interview for both no-staff and staff of NIPOST was conducted by the consultant.

He said such exercise would have been unnecessary since NIPOST parades capable and experienced hands in-house to drive the organization.

On the delay in appointing a new PMG, he said: “Now that the federal government is handling, it is already beyond the House, I want to believe that they will eventually pick the best hand that will be capable of piloting NIPOST to the next level.

“I think this will be the first time a recruitment agency should be called in to conduct interview for the PMG and I think will be happening in the country for the first time.”
