Election: Group Condemns Unhealthy Political Manoeuvring Among CAN Members

The last has not been heard of the ongoing brouhaha ravaging the Christian Association of Nigeria over its dilemma to successfully conduct a peaceful election into the office of its National President when the tenure of the incumbent elapses this month.

CAN, made up of the following five blocs: CSN, CCN, CPFN/PFN, OAIC, and TEKAN/ECWA, makes room for rotation of its leadership among the five blocs as provided in its constitution.

While some groups have come out to say it’s their turn to produce the next President, others are pointing accusing fingers at the Buhari-led government through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) for the current dilemma facing the association.

According to the Head, Patriotic Christian Front (PCF), Chief Michael Awonour, while briefing the press on Friday in Abuja, “Some hawks have emerged within CAN. And what is more worrisome is the fact that the current National President of CAN and his executives have remained too silent for comfort on the matter.

“They must speak up now in the interest of Justice and fair play. CAN is not a secular pressure group or Labour Union and must not allow to die.”
