The Court of Appeal in Abuja has again adjourned hearing of the appeal filed by the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, challenging the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal to try him for alleged false asset declaration charges.
The appeal was adjourned to July 18 at the instance of Saraki’s lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, who wrote to the court seeking adjournment on health ground.
Agabi said he was unable to attend the court and apologized to the court.
He wrote the court through another counsel in his team, Joe Achogwu.
The prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, did not object to Agabi’s application.
The tribunal had on May 31 adjourned hearing of the appeal to yesterday after the justices could not form a quorum.
Saraki is challenging a ruling by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar, dismissing his questioning of the jurisdiction of the tribunal to try him.
The Senate President is asking the higher court to set aside the decision of the tribunal and and hold that the tribunal lacks the jurisdiction to try him.
