Ganduje to Tax the Rich to ‘Help the Poor’

Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said the state government is committed to collecting more taxes from the rich people to improve the quality of life of the poor.

He disclosed that the government is aware of what the multifaceted challenges in both urban and rural areas in the city, promising to improve the accessibility and mobility in the rural areas to enhance movement of farm produce, while other challenges would be addressed according to their priorities.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists on Monday, Ganduje added that the Federal Government is working out modalities to provide insecticides that would tackle the tuta absoluta, which is currently ravaging tomato farms in the state.

The governor ordered the purchase of fertilizer valued at N900m ahead of the farming season in the state.

He directed all Local Government chairmen to deal directly with the farmers’ association to ensure that the fertilizer were not hijacked by fraudulent middlemen who would want to hide under the pretence of farmers.
