Minister Jets to Pakistan for OIC Science Tech Confab

At the invitation of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Mannoon Hussein, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, yesterday flew to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, to attend the general assembly of the fifteenth session of the Committee on Science and Technology (COSTECH) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Deputy Director, Public Relations of the ministry, Mr. Taiye Akinyemi, in statement issued in Abuja, said the attendance of the minister is in response to request from Hussein to President Muhammadu Buhari to delegate the minister to attend the General Assembly of the Committee scheduled to hold from Thursday, next week in Islamabad.

The statement said, “COMSTECH, which is in its fifteenth years of existence, assists OIC member states to build indigenous capacities in science and technology through cooperation and mutual assistance.

“The attendance and participation of Nigeria at the conference is expected to further strengthen and enhance the capacity of the country to develop science and technology which is key to the success of the change agenda of the federal government.”
According to the statement, the minister’s trip is a further demonstration of the Buhari administration’s determination to explore all available avenues that will assist in the uplifting of the living standard of Nigerians.
