Port Harcourt Agog for Yobo’s Testimonial

The Garden City of Port Harcourt will stand still this evening as former Eagles Skipper, Joseph Yobo, will stage a testimonial match in celebration of his retirement and centenary appearance for the national team.

The Joseph Yobo Foundation organised the event in conjunction with the Rivers State Government to honour the player who had a record 101 caps for the Super Eagles.

Coordinator of the event, Waidi Akanni, said yesterday that all was set for the testimonial match.
“About 10 players from various parts are already in town. Tressor Lua Lua, the Ayew Brothers: Andrea and Jordan, Sulley Muntari, are some of the players already in town. David Moyes and John Terry will arrive Abuja this morning en-route Port Harcourt. We are set for this big event,” Akanni said.

Other top players from various parts of Europe especially the EPL arrived Lagos yesterday evening and are to be flown with a chartered flight to Port Harcourt this morning for the match.
Samuel Eto’o flew in straight from his base in Turkey into Lagos last night to honour his long time friend.

Didier Drogba, John Terry, Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney are some of those still being expected to arrive early today for the testimonial match.
Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi and his assistant, Ahmed Musa are part of the team to fly into the Garden city this morning.

Vincent Enyeama, Samson Siasia, Nwanko Kanu and Emmanuel Emenike are some of the Nigerian players (past and present) expected to feature in the match.
Rivers State Governor, Nyson Wike, is expected to kick off the encounter with a penalty match against Enyeama at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium,.

Meanwhile, CSKA Moscow star, Musa told AfricanFootball.com yesterday that Yobo deserves to be celebrated by his colleagues both within and outside Nigeria after what he has achieved in the game.
“Skippo (Yobo) deserves to be celebrated by all of us. He has paid his dues as a footballer for the country and his various clubs.

“I am happy to be among those to honour him because it’s a deserving one. To win 101 caps for any national team is no joke,” stressed Musa last night.

Yobo represented Nigeria at Under-20 and full international levels, playing at three World Cups. He played for several top European clubs including Everton, Norwich City, Olympique Marseille, Standard Liege and Fenerbache.
Some of the corporate bodies who have indicated their support for the Joseph Yobo Centenary Game include, Sifax Group, NICON Insurance and Beko Electronics Ltd.
