The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has said it would be premature to assess the government of President Muhammadu Buhari as he marks his first anniversary in office.

Gbajabiamila speaking with journalists yesterday said any assessment of Buhari could change in the next one or two years.

“The framers of our constitution gave a term of four years to the president, you can assess someone now, and in two years, the position would change. Let’s be patient and give the government enough now,” he said.

He however noted that the government has ‘done remarkably well’ considering the situation when it took over power on May 29, 2015.

The anti-corruption fight has been unprecedented, the leader said and recalled that several people are currently being tried on charges bordering on corruption.
“Nobody can say that today, any politician, civil servant or regular citizen would not think twice before doing anything that touches on corruption,” he said.

He harped on the need to deal with the fundamental challenge of corruption to restore confidence in the economy and ensure that appropriated funds are used for projects and services they were earmarked for.
