The Kaduna State Government is to install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras across the state to fight crime.
Coordinator of the state security outfit “Operation Yaki” Col. Yakubu Yusufu Soja, disclosed this yesterday at a news conference to mark the one year anniversary of the administration of Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the state.
Soja said work on the installation of CCTV cameras across the state had reached an advanced stage, adding that Unmanned Ariel Vehicle also known as drones were being procured for effective surveillance.
He said operatives of the security outfit, made up of the police, civil defence corps and the military, were being trained to use the new security gadgets.
He said further that the state government plans to procure modern crime detecting devices and more operation vehicles to the security outfit in order face the challenges of intelligence gathering, pin down and surveillance throughout the state.
“It is hoped that if this tempo is sustained the rate of crime and criminality would be reduced to the barest minimum in the state in order to pave way for the development agenda of this administration,” Soja said.
According to him, about 60 kidnappers who had been terrorising the state were arrested, adding that some of them had been charged to court.
He said the arrest of the kidnappers followed the clearing of the Birnin Gwari and Abuja – Kaduna roads by men of the Operation Yaki, adding that the roads which were a nightmare to travelers are now safe.
“We have taken care of the areas that normally was a source of concern for the people. Even the police could not access some areas in Kaduna before now. The state is safe and this is due to our patrols and stop and search operations” he said.
Soja urged residents to support and cooperate with security agencies in order to fight crime.
