Carrington Mourns Oba of Benin

As the burial rites of the Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa, began wednesday, the former United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Walter Carrington, has commiserated with the Crown Prince of Benin, Ehenede Erediauwa, royal family and the people of Benin kingdom on the passage of the oba.

Carrington, whose wife, Arese is from Benin, in a condolence message made available to THISDAY in Benin City, said his heartfelt condolences goes to the people of Benin on the passing of the Oba.

According the letter of condolence, “My heartfelt condolences goes to the people of Benin on the passing of the Oba of Benin Kingdom, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolopkolo Erediauwa.

“I also extend my condolences to Eheneden Erediauwa, the royal family, palace chiefs and the Benin Traditional Council. Late Oba Erediawa lived an exemplary and selfless life not only as a civil servant but also as a leader and king.”

Carrington said: “As the traditional burial rites begin, may the people of the land of my in-laws be comforted knowing that the heir apparent to the throne, Eheneden will continue the good works of his father.
“Arese and I will keep the people of Benin in our hearts and prayers,” Carrington concluded.
