Almat Group Wins Abuja Guards BPolo Trophy

Almat Group has continued their impressive winning run in the finals of the Guards Brigade Trophy  in Abuja as they trashed Dattaku  9-4  in the final game in the battle for the Guards Brigade Trophy at the ongoing 2016 Abuja Unity Polo Tournament.

The match which was played at the Abuja Guards Polo turf saw Almat Group’s Maurice Ekpenyong, Nura Kangiwa , Idris Badamasi and Abdulmalik Badamasi, all combining as a well organized team with well trained horses, as they showed class and precision to produce a total of nine goals in the finals.

In the group stages ALMAT Group routed MAKBLO 9 – 3, and in the next qualifying stage, defeated a promising Kano Team 8 – 4, all in Team B, qualifying them for the finals against Dattaku KD.

Makblo on their part tried very hard to match up with the fire power of their opponents as Ibrahim Musa and Isa Makarfi scored a goal each in the first and fourth chukka respectively.

In the President’s Cup, Rubicon Polo team led by Sen. Hadi Sirika, won the 2016 Unity Polo tournament’s President Cup -the biggest trophy- after edging Trade Mark Polo club 6-4 1/2 in the final decided at the Guards Polo Club turf.

Trade Mark was awarded a 1 1/2 handicap at the start of the game being the underdogs but Rubicon took the game to their opponents and immediately recorded a goal seconds into the first chukka through Abdulmalik Badamasi.

Also, a very close contest in the final of the Guards Challenge Cup saw DY Farms end the match in a 3-3 draw with Capital Builders but still went ahead to lift the trophy on points advantage.
