Strike: Police Threaten to Arrest Unruly Labour Leaders in Ekiti

By Olakiitan Victor

The Ekiti State Police Command on Saturday warned the labour
leaders against embarrassing or subjecting any innocent Ekiti resident
to inhuman treatment over the ongoing nationwide strike called to
protest against the hike in the price of petrol.

The command said the threat by the leadership of the Nigerian Labour
Congress and Joint Negotiating Council to disrupt business activities
in Ado Ekiti henceforth could undermine the security of the state
and give hoodlums undue advantage to wreak havoc on the populace.

Speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti , the Commissioner of
Police, Mr Etop James, said the command viewed the threat handed down
by the labour leaders to enforce sit-at-home order at all costs with
seriousness.

James, who spoke through the Public Relations Officer, Mr Alberto
Adeyemi, added that the security agencies will not tolerate any act of
indiscipline or coercion of innocent Nigerians to join the strike,
saying people should be given the liberty to associate freely without
being forced or molested.
