The President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), Dr. Nato Ofo, has noted that good corporate governance culture is a vital factor in the investment and survival of businesses across the globe.

Ofo, who disclosed this recently in Lagos at the 2016 Roundtable Session on Corporate Governance with the theme: ‘Regime of fines by regulators: The implication for corporate governance’ which was organised by the institute, stated that the effective implementation and observance of the corporate governance principles would help form the bedrock for a positive corporate culture that would “lead to organisational health and sustainability.”

He also noted that many of the best governed organisations have relied on the principles of governance for their daily functioning, adding that as the champion of corporate governance, they have promoted in numerous ways the activities of good governance through initiatives such as “periodic release of guidance and policy statements on governance-related themes, contributions on specific issues of importance to both public and private sector as well as holding conferences and roundtables sessions.”

The organisation president added that: “I would like to state here that ICSAN is the foremost professional Institute in Nigeria today with the most comprehensive training programme on Corporate Governance for those aspiring to be members and the most consistent and elaborate continuous education scheme for those who are already members. Thus Corporate Governance resonates in everything we do.

“Today’s event is therefore another milestone in the quest of our great Institute to contribute its quota to socio-economic advancement of the country through the enterprise of resort-oriented intellectual discourse.”

He further stated that the roundtable session has being organised over the years to offer avenue for rigorous and purposeful discussions by important dignitaries, entrepreneurs, and seasoned administrators on how to bring time-tested principles of governance to bear on challenges in the business world.
