‎The federal government affirmed on Thursday that it is not giving up on the 338-kilometre East-West road, saying that the present administration would do whatever it takes to develop infrastructure in the country.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani‎ Uguru USANi,‎ gave the assurance in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers in his office. The delegation came to register their worries about the abandonment of the road project, especially the Onne-Eleme junction section..

‎ “I am certain that no matter the passions you expressed, ‎not one of us feels the way that the president feels about these things. I am not saying it to make anybody feel that we are trying to impress anyone, but I remember in one of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings, he said whatever it would take for the infrastructure in his country to be developed that he will do it, including collecting loans,” the minister said.

He expressed the administration’s resolve to develop the country’s infrastructure as demonstrated in this year’s budget, adding that the budget breakdown has shown that for a very long time Nigeria has never had more than 11% ‎ estimate for capital expenditure while that in the 2016 budget is 30%.
