Police Beef Up Security in Lagos Ahead of Planned NLC Strike

The Lagos State Police Command has beefed up security around key public and government facilities ahead of this Wednesday’s nationwide strike planned by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

The strike is to protest the increase in the fuel pump price from N86 and N86.50k to N145 per litre by the Federal Government.

So, to prevent breakdown of law and order given that the Industrial Court had banned the strike, the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said all area commanders and their respective Divisional Police Officers, all Mobile Squadrons have been directed to maintain water-tight security in their respective areas of responsibility.

Speaking through the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, the CP said the command has put in place security measure to forestal any break down of Law and Order in any part of the metropolis.

She said, “The CP has also assured all of the safety of their lives and property. Members of the public have also been advised to go about their duty without any fear of molestation.

“He however urged parents and guardian to advised their wards on the need to stay away from trouble, stressing that anybody or group of persons who may wish to take laws into their own hands would be made to face the wrath of the law when arrested.
“Officers have been directed to maintain 24 hour surveillance in their respective areas. Officers who allow situation to get out of hand will have himself or herself to blame.”
