- As workers ignore strike

Members of the Sokoto state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Wednesday staged a peaceful protest, asking the Federal Government to revert to the old price of N86.50 per litre of fuel.
The NLC members were on their way to the Government House around 11.00 am, when security operatives swiftly intervened and dispersed them.
In fact, the members were forced to retreat to their office where the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Aminu Umar Ahmed, addressed them.
Speaking with THISDAY in Sokoto, the state NLC Chairman advised members of the public to stay at home.
“We are calling on residents of Sokoto to stay at home until the Federal Government reversed its decision on fuel increment,”he said.
Ahmed described the recent fuel hike as sheer wickedness and urged President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency revert to the old price.
However, the strike action embarked by the Sokoto NLC made no impact in the Sokoto metropolis.
THISDAY observed that civil servants in ministries, departments and agencies were seen conducting their activities without any hitches.
Similarly, places like schools, hospitals, markets, motorparks and banks remained open for business in defiance of the order by the national leadership of the NLC.
A visit to Sokoto Specialist Hospital revealed that nurses, doctors and other health personnel were busy attending to patients.
