Outgoing Prison CG Approves Promotion of 5,900 Officers

The outgoing Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS), Mr. Peter Ekpendu, on Tuesday said he has approved the promotion of 5,900 officers.

Speaking at the pull-out ceremony organised for him at the headquarters of the service in Abuja, he said his tenure was characterized with petitions from both within and outside the Service.

The former Comptroller-General who described the petitions as frivolous, said he stood by whatever action he took while in office as the CG of the Prisons service.

Despite the deluge of petition that flooded the minister’s office, he said he had to approve the promotion of 5,900 officers and men of the service as a parting gift.

Ekpendu, who joined NPS twenty six years ago, however admitted that he had no regret of any actions taken while in office as the Prisons Comptroller General.

He said: “I stand by whatever I did throughout my tenure and I also stand by it.”
