Fuel Price Hike: Labour Begins Mobilisation for Total Strike, Shutdown

By Paul Obi in Abuja

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Sunday said it has commenced the full mobilisation of workers and civil servants across the country for a total strike and shutdown of the economy once the 3-day ultimatum given to the federal government expires on Tuesday.

The union said considering the method with which government went ahead to announce the price increment without consultation, labour will ensure that the strike is total.

At one of their secret meeting points, strategizing ahead of the strike, NLC Secretary General, Dr Peter Ozo-Eson told THISDAY that organised labour will not relent in making sure that the planned strike and shutdown of the economy are effective and efficiently carried out.

According Ozo-Eson, “As we declared, we are mobilising. You can see today is Sunday, and we are about to enter the meeting. It is part of the preparation for action.”
