The Chairman of Islamic Orphanage Foundation, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, Alhaji Seefullah Alege, has called on the National Assembly to enact laws that will make it mandatory for the federal government to earmark funds yearly from federal budget to take care of orphanages across the country.
Similarly, he urged state Houses of Assembly to follow suit by also enacting laws making it compulsory for local government councils to equally set aside funds to cater for such categories of Nigerians.
Alege made the appeal in Ilorin while speaking with journalists on the state of the nation.
He observed that government at both federal and state levels and some well-to-do citizens in the country have neglected the orphans, thereby making them to be either wayward or turn out to be irresponsible citizens in the society.
The chairman of the foundation disclosed that the Ilorin Islamic Orphanage Foundation which was established in 2002 began with only ten children but has now increased to 217.
According to him, “Sixty five out of the orphans in the foundation with its center behind KAM Wire Industry , Ilorin are in various tertiary institutions across the country but however, said the foundations major constraint is funding.”
