Two Killed as Tanker Explodes on Benin -Ore Road

The ever-busy Benin-Ore Road on Thursday recorded a heavy traffic gridlock when a diesel-laden tanker exploded at Ofosu, Ondo State, with two people burnt to death while one other person was critically injured..

The accident, according to an eye-witness, occurred around 2pm when the driver of the tanker lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle, which had about 33,000 litres of diesel, was said to have tumbled and caught fire immediately it fell.

The eye witness said the vehicle got exploded while the driver and one other person in the truck were struggling to get out of the vehicle.

The fire was said to have been put off by some residents of the area.

Confirming the accident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ondo State Command,, Femi Joseph, said the tanker was coming from Ore, heading towards Benin when the accident occurred in Ofosu, around Levante company.

He said men of the command quickly moved to the scene to clear the wreckages from the road to allow free flow of traffic on the road.
