The resurgence of militancy in the Niger-Delta has reared its head once again as suspected militants blew up the Valve Platform, an offshore oil facility belonging to Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, located near Escravos in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, is coming at a time the Federal Government is intensifying security surveillance around oil and gas installations in the Niger-Delta against the backdrop of seeming resurgence of damaging vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage in the nation’s oil industry.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo during a recent visit to vandalized pipelines at the Forcados Export Terminal, hinted on plans by the Federal Government to increase military presence and the possible creation of a special security our fit to specifically to oversee pipeline surveillance in the oil-rich region.

Amid lamentations by the federal and Delta State governments over the huge revenue losses being suffered daily due to the activities of vandals and other economic saboteurs in the industry particularly in the Niger-Delta, there were reports during the week of Chevron turnover dipping significantly.

However, the American oil giant appeared to be keeping sealed lips about Wednesday night explosive attack, but THISDAY learnt that the incident has greatly distressed CNL management as Valve Platform represents a significant oil production facility in the country.
