By  Mohammed Aminu

Sokoto state government on Sunday said it will recruit 500 youths for sanitation exercise in the state.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal announced this at this year’s Workers Day celebration held at the Giginya Memorial stadium, Sokoto.

Tambuwal, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Bashir Garba, said this would help the state reclaim its position as one of the cleanest state in the federation.

He maintained that the state government has done enough to improve the welfare of its workers.

Tambuwal said this include  prompt payment of salaries and the N2 billion backlog of gratuities recently cleared by the government.

He disclosed that no fewer than 900 workers had been recruited in the last 11 months in the state civil service, adding that effort had been on to secure more Mortgage Bank housing loans for its civil servants.

In a remark, Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, Comrade Aminu Umar Ahmed,  appealed to the state government to look into the plight of retired teachers and staff of local government councils whose benefits had not been paid.
