A United States-based Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), When in Need Foundation (WIN) has donated shoes to 500 pupils of Sam Njemanze Primary School, Owerri, Imo State, as part of its global outreach programme tagged ‘Mission of Mercy’ (MOM).

Its Director of Media, Mr. George Onuorah, who made this known in a statement issued in Abuja, said it has become pertinent for the foundation to hold an awareness programme in Nigeria and also share the impact it has been able to make with limited resources.

“Since 2012, the foundation has continued to impact lives globally through the MOM, which is the global outreach programme of WIN; the foundation has assisted many individuals in need with basic amenities, food, supplies, medical, healthcare, and educational resources globally.”

The director stressed that the programme has positively impacted thousands of individuals particularly women, children and orphans in Nigeria, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic, Chile, Argentina, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, among others.

“In Nigeria, some of the programmes completed or in the final stages of completion thus far include: rehabilitating various dilapidated structures as well as supply of shoes to 500 pupils at Sam Njemanze Primary School, Owerri; supported orphanage homes in Abuja FCT and Jigawa State; distribution of Ebola check kits to schools in Abuja and across the country; rural agricultural empowerment project in Ntueke, Imo State; medical assistance for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in a camp in Abuja, among many others.”

Onuorah explained that in November 2013, the foundation joined the Clinton Foundation and the Friends of Rockaway to help rebuild a home that was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in the Rockaways, New York in the spirit of community service and giving back.

He said the foundation has also awarded scholarships for four students at four different high schools in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US for two years running.

According to him, the awareness programme was meant to acquaint people with the activities of the foundation, and it will hold on April 26, 2016 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, with Senator Ben Obi as the keynote speaker.
