Niger State Targets N3bn IGR

The Niger state government is targeting an Internally Generated Revenue of N3 billion monthly as against the N400m it now generates.

This is the mandate the state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, gave a 22- man committee he set up to find ways of boosting the IGR of the state on Wednesday.

The Committee is headed by the Vice Chancellor of the state owned Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai.

The decision to lay more emphasis on IGR is not unconnected with the continued declined of the income of the state from the Federation Account, which has made payment of salaries and other allowances a herculean task while social projects have been abandoned.

The state government has borrowed over N2.4bn in the last four months to balance what it got from Abuja to enable it pay workers’ salaries.
