An ICT company, Edu Platform Nigeria Limited and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka are to partner in the area of ICT to enhance learning in the country.

This was part of the agreement reached at a one-day workshop to sensitise stakeholders and staff of the institution on “Courseware Design and Development for Open and Distance Learning (ODL).

The workshop came on the heels of the recent mandate by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as regards commencement of distance learning degree programmes centred on introducing participants to instructional design principles and theories; course material development and equipping them with the knowledge and skills required for the design and development of ODL compliant course contents.

Addressing the participants, the Project Manager of Emerging Platforms Group, Mr. Olorunninwo Ebinisa, explained that it is important to equip the academic staff with the necessary technological skills to design and develop course ware materials suitable for distance learning, as it would contribute to the overall quality of the programme.

Ebinisa said the centre, “when functional, will be equipped with the appropriate modern technological infrastructure that will serve several stakeholders, including teachers and students effectively.

“The centre will be a platform through which students of the distance learning programmes can access information from electronic devices outside the confines of the university. This is in line with the core objectives of Edu Platforms Ltd to deliver massively impactful solutions in the education space by leveraging on technology.”

The partnership is expected to bring about a robust e-learning base, focusing on open and distance learning programmes at UNN. Edu Platform has also carried out the design and deployment of e-learning solution platform i-Learn, currently in use at the National Open University Nigeria (NOUN).
