The DSS also said that the group owes its allegiance to Iran from where they receive financial assistance and support.

Testifying before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating the December 12 – 14, 2015 clashes between the Shiites and the Nigerian Army in Zaria, the Kaduna state director of the DSS, Mustapha Sani, alleged further that Islamic group does not recognise the sovereignty of Nigeria.

He further disclosed that during the clash between the group and the army, members of the Shiite group carried crude weapons such as cutlasses, sticks and similar locally designed swords, from records of their activities in Zaria and in Kaduna state as a whole.

According to him, the Shiite conduct paramilitary training for their members.
He maintained that the sect “has remained and will always remain a security threat” as their ultimate objective is the establishment of an Islamic State based on their doctrines”.
