A notorious phone thief operating at the Computer Village area of Lagos was arrested on Thursdayafter he attempted to rob an operative of the Rapid Response Squad (RSS) who was on decoy.

The suspect, who was identified as 32-year-old Idowu Nojeem, was said to have not just robbed the policeman, Sergeant Oladipo Adetumbi, of his phone but attacked him as well.

According to the police, the suspect had approached the sergeant and forcibly dispossessed him of his Tecno Y5 handset.

When the operative, who was on a surveillance mission around Ikeja Under Bridge, made a frantic effort to retrieve the phone and arrest the suspect, he was badly beaten up.

According to an eyewitness account, the policeman had pulled the suspect by his shirt, but the suspect refused to return the phone; rather, he began to beat up the sergeant.

Despite being badly beaten up, the policeman refused to release him and it took the joint effort of some other policemen, who were called in, to arrest the suspect.

The suspect was later taken by the operative to where their patrol van was stationed at the Under Bridge, Ikeja.

Nojeem was later identified by another victim, one Adoh Nneka, who he had robbed on the same spot few hours before the clash with the policeman.
