Malaria can be prevented

As part of efforts to curb the high incidence of malaria in Nigeria, Greenlife Pharmaceuticals and Treehouse Consulting are championing a one-thousand man walk in Lagos to raise awareness on prevention and treatment of the scourge.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos Tuesday, the Marketing Manager, Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Limited, Mr Olufemi Ayokun, revealed that no fewer than 1000 persons will march against Malaria on Tuesday, April 26th by 8am, starting from Classique Event Centre, Oregun and ending at the Pavilion, Alausa, Lagos, with an awareness lecture to crown it up.
According to him, this became necessary as malaria kills a child every 30 minutes in Africa, while Nigeria remains the worse hit among countries burdened by the disease. “We will be glad if no child is lost to malaria again in this country,” adding that, this would be possible if people adhere to the various prevention procedures and treatment plans available against the disease.
Lending her voice, the Chief Executive Officer of Treehouse Consulting, Morolake Akindiji, said it was unfortunate that 35 per cent of people who die from malaria in the world were from Nigeria and Congo, adding that over 3.3 billion people across the globe were at risk of malaria.
She called on well meaning Nigerians to join in the walk to create awareness on the disease. “There will be lecture on what is needed by every Nigerian to prevent mosquito around their homes. Best treatment plans will be discussed as well. We believe when people are equipped with these informations and adhere strictly to the professional advices that will be shared, the incidence rate of the scourge will reduce drastically. That is why we want every Nigerian to join in this walk come April 26th, 2016.
She noted that among dignitaries expected at the walk include the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Idiati Adebule, the Commissioner for Health, Lagos State, Dr. Jide Idris, representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Speaker of the house of Assembly, Lagos State, among others.
The World Health Organisation has designated April 25th every year to commemorate World Malaria Day. This year’s theme is “End Malaria for Good”.
