Tsav Blames Corruption for Fuel Scarcity

George Okoh in Makurdi
Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has blamed the current fuel scarcity being experienced in the country on high level corruption in the oil industry.

Tsav while speaking in Makurdi yesterday, said the situation was becoming a source of embarrassment to the government and people of Nigeria.

He alleged that “an oil cartel in the country is frustrating government’s concerted efforts to address the issue, thereby inflicting hardship on Nigerians and embarrassing the country.

“I urge the government to take a decisive action to address the situation by taking steps to expose the cartel and the masterminds of this embarrassment so as to sanitise the system.”

Tsav who regretted that high profile corrupt individuals were still working freely in the streets despite the anti-graft war of President Muhammadu Buhari, maintained that the fight would only be commendable when those indicted of looting the treasury were sent to jail.

“You go to our prisons and see petty thieves who stole handsets that were eventually recovered, serving long jail terms while those who stole our commonwealth are walking the streets as free men.

“I do not even subscribe to plea bargain because that will depict clearly that our democracy is like animal farm where some animals are more equally than others. My position is that those who stole should be punished.”
