A baby and nine other passengers were on Monday night burnt to death in an accident that occurred at Iyana Yafin along the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State, while 12 others were rescued alive although they sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The fatal accident occurred after two vehicles, an 18- seater commercial bus fully loaded with passengers, and a Mazda saloon car had a head-on collision.

THISDAY gathered that at the impact of the collision, the two cars exploded and fire engulfed them and their respective passengers.

Although men of the state fire service rescued 12 of the passengers from the flames, 10 others were not so lucky as they were burnt to death.

The commercial bus with registration number KJA 654 XF, which was said to have been coming from the Seme end of the Badagry Expressway, had driven against traffic from the Gbaji bridge.

THISDAY gathered that the driver of the bus switched off the bus lights in an attempt to evade the road blocks mounted by security agents along the expressway and, in the process, had a head-on collision with an oncoming Mazda car .
