As part of the efforts to reduce planting and consumption of hard drugs in the state, once rated as the highest producer of cannabis in the country , a United States of America-based Army Officer, Capt. Sunday Adebomi and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have partnered to rid the state of the menace .

This came as NDLEA revealed that Ekiti no longer leads in cannabis production and consumption despite that the largest single seizure worth 77 tonnes with a market price of N83 million was destroyed in the state in 2009 by the agency.

The NDLEA Commander in Ekiti, Mr Suleiman Jadi, said in Ado Ekiti on Monday during the grand finale of the Ekiti chapter of a national essay competition for secondary school students on the theme : ‘Drug Abuse, Cultism and Youth Violence in Secondary Schools in Nigeria’ that the feat was achieved through the series of sensitization campaigns organized by agency and other stakeholders.
