JEDC Begins Distribution of 120,000 Pre-paid Meters

Electricity Distribution Company has commenced the distribution and installation of 120,000 prepaid meters in its four franchise-states of Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe and Benue.

Its Managing Director, Mohammed Gidado Modibbo, stated this during the commissioning of the pre-paid electronic meters distribution which also saw the distribution of transformers and other materials of the company in Jos.

He said the company plans to distribute 180,000 prepaid meters before the end of 2016.

Modibbo, while pleading for understanding from electricity consumers over increase in tariff, promised that Nigerians will witness tremendous growth in the sector in the next few months.

Also speaking at the occasion, Plateau Governor, Simon Lalong called on individuals, communities and institutions to, at all times, protect the company’s assets in their localities against vandalism, and illegal connections so that they would continue to enjoy uninterrupted power.

He said the commissioning of the distribution of pre paid meters, transformers and other electricity supply essentials “will essentially lead to improvement in power supply, better energy management and enhanced customer service experience for all electricity consumers under the Jos Electricity Distribution Company franchise area, most essentially the pre paid meters, which will be distributed free to customers.” He added that “this will address present metering gap as well as place energy consumption and management in the hands of the customers, thereby reducing the controversies and disagreements associated with estimated billing.
