Digitisation: FG to Launch Pilot Switch-over ‎ 30th April

The federal government announced on Wednesday that pilot phase of ‎the switch over from analogue to digital broadcasting will be conducted on the 30th April, in Jos Plateau state.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made the announcement during a special meeting held with members of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), in Abuja.

The minister noted that the government was committed to meeting the June 2017 deadline, after two previous deadlines had been missed.

He however urged broadcasters across the the nation to be prepared for the migration, noting that broadcasters are the

“We have a deadline of June 2017, which is just a little over a year from now, to achieve the Digital Switch Over, or DSO. That simply means the broadcast industry, your industry, will switch over from Analogue to Digital broadcasting. This will have a profound effect on your operations, hence you must be prepared,” he said.

The minister who said all concerns raised by several stakeholders would be attended to after the launch.

“We are not unaware of the misgivings and the concerns that have been expressed by some of you over the DSO. I am here to assure you that the concerns will be addressed in due course. For now, however, our focus is on the success of the Pilot Phase in Jos. After that has been achieved, we will all return to the drawing board to chisel out the rough edges, address the concerns of the various stakeholders and throttle along full speed to meet the DSO target date,” he added.
