Sokoto Moves to Boost Rice, Wheat Farming

Sokoto state government is to give priority to the production of rice, wheat and tomatoe to boost the economy of the state, the Chairman of the State Comittee for the Revitalisation of Agriculture, Alhaji Chiso Dattijo has said.

He stated this during a meeting with members of the state chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Sokoto at the weekend.

According to him, the move became necessary in view of the drastic fall in the price of oil in the international market.

He said the move was aimed at boosting food security and enhancing the well being of farmers in the state.

To this end, Dattijo urged the Association to come up with a data base of their activities to enable the state government assist them in terms of processing and storage of their commodities.

He solicited the state government’s support and assistance towards improving farming activities in the state.

Minanata also, expressed satisfaction with the recent move embarked by the state government to revamp agriculture in the state.
