LASG Issues Provisional Approval Letters to Qualified Private Schools’ Proprietors

  • Adebule warns against compromise

Lagos State Government has issued duly signed provisional letters of approvals to a total of 114 proprietors/schools owners who have met government guidelines/ requirements for the operation of private primary/secondary schools in the state.

The state government stated that the issuance of the letters to those qualified schools operators is in fulfillment of its promise to the operators of private schools that anyone of them that met government guidelines and requirements for the operations of private schools would be given a provisional approvals by the state government, indicating that the state government recognises such school and that its operational guideline is in tandem with government requirements and general policy on the operation of private schools in the state.

The state Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, who represented Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at the event, stated that the essence of the letters was to recognise those that abide by the government rules and regulations regarding operation of private schools and to encourage them to do better, thereby, promoting the growth of quality education in the state.

The deputy governor while congratulating the proprietors/schools owners whose schools met the set guide lines not to rest on their oars, advised them to work harder to maintain standard and attain greater height in delivering quality education, warning that the state government would not hesitate to withdraw its letter from any school that derails along the line and compromised the standard.

She said: You should know this is just a provisional approval letter, we will not hesitate to withdraw the letter from any school that performs below standard or if any other reason suggests that the school has lost focus in its operational guidelines.’’

According to the deputy governor, Ambode is generally concerned about quality education in the state, regardless of whether in the private or public schools, warning owners of private primary and secondary schools in the state to focus more on delivering quality education in their schools rather than turning them into a money making venture and care less about the future of their end products.

“You should know that your end products are the future leaders of our dear country, therefore we must join hands in giving them the right education that will help them to be up to the task of nation building and we can only achieve this if we give them the right education,’’ Adebule stated.

While reassuring that the presentation of provisional approvals would be a regular exercise, Adebule told them that the era of waiting endlessly for letters of approval is gone and urged them to reciprocate government good gesture by ensuring that they do not compromise standard of quality education in their schools, promising that the state government would continue to create an enabling environment that would help them to succeed in their operations.
While speaking on behalf of other proprietors, Mrs. Jacuta Umeobi of the Vintage Nursery/Primary School, Okokomaiko said the letters of approval they collected would further ginger them up to increase their efficiency in the day to day administration of their schools.

She noted that many school proprietors had waited for too long to be accredited by the state government, adding that their letters of provisional approval by the administration of Ambode is a promise kept and promise fulfilled, pledging that their association would go back to the drawing board and set up a task force that would monitor activities of other members to ensure that no one compromised in the operational guidelines set by the government.
A total of 114 proprietors of primary and secondary schools that met government guidelines were issued with provisional letters of approval.
