NAFDAC Seizes N40m Worth Fake, Unregistered Drugs, Seals Pharmacies in Osun  

Operatives of National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have sealed some pharmacies in Osogbo and Ilesa in Osun State after confiscating huge quantum of fake and unregistered drugs worth over N35 million in the State.
Some of the pharmacies sealed in Osogbo include Akol Pharmaceutical Limited near Ladoke Akitola University Teaching Hospital and Raphabalm Pharmacy located at Alekuwodo, while Felfam Healthcare and Supermarket at Fegbewesa was given strong warning, according to a release issued by the Public Relations Officer, (Enforcement Operations), NAFDAC, Mr. Anslem Okonkwor.
NAFDAC also sealed Topawo Feeds Services at Alekuwodo and Atlab Farm Products located at Okinni, Osogbo for selling unregistered animal feeds. The Managing Director of the company who was accused of flagrant violations of the Agency’s regulations was arrested and transferred to Lagos for further interrogations.
The operatives who were accompanied on the operation by security officials and pressmen also raided the popular Orisunbare market in the heart of the city some shops were sealed for selling unwholesome products, unregistered and expired food products including wines and cosmetics.
At Ilesa, Akewusola Chemist and Supermarket at E126 Oke-Isa Street, was also sealed by NAFDAC officials and drugs and other regulated products worth over five million naira were confiscated there.
Also sealed is a pure water factory, Royal Step Nigeria Limited for refusing to renew its registration licence since 2007 The company belongs to the Chairman of the Association of Table Water Producers in Osun state, Prince Ademola Adeyeye who was also a former Chairman of Obokun Local Government area.
The Deputy Director in the NAFDAC’s Directorate of Investigation and enforcement, Mr. Francis Onaniwu, said the essence of the raid was to sanitise the markets and ensure that only wholesome products that were approved by NAFDAC and were sold to the consumers.
