Court Remands Man, 30 for Alleged Murder

For allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old  Ojo Akintoye to death with a broken bottle, a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Oke-Eda in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has remanded a 30-year old man, Sunkanmi Gabriel in Olokuta prosody.

  The magistrate, Mrs. Victoria Bob-Manuel, gave the order over the offence allegedly committed by the suspect at about 6a.m. at Oloko Junction, Akure Magisterial District on March 4,2016.

The offence, according to the prosecution, contravened sections 316(1) and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The plea of the accused person, who was represented by Adelanke Akinata, was not taken.
The police prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso, urged the court to adjourned the case to enable him send the duplicate file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

 He prayed the court to remand the accused person in Olokuta prison custody pending the issuance of the advice by the DPP.
The magistrate subsequently ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison pending the outcome of legal advice from the DPP.

She ordered the police to submit the compiled case file and its duplicate to the clerk of the court in order to transfer the original to the office of the Chief Registrar for safe keeping.
The case was adjourned till May 2, 2016.
