Fayose and the Chibok Girls

Governor Ayo Fayose’s open repudiation of the reality of Chibok schoolgirls kidnap last Wednesday does not only hurt national and international sentiments, it shows a terribly unfeeling attitude and brashness unbecoming of a public officer of a state governor’s calibre. The Ekiti State governor’s behaviour smacks of extreme politics and it should be condemned by all Nigerians, irrespective of party affiliation, religion, or tribe.

Fayose is free to make his own judgment about any issue, but he ought to mind his language. This is because of the office he occupies and, in the particular case of the Chibok girls, for the sanctity of the human lives affected by the sad kidnap incident.

Fayose does not need to add to the trauma of the parents and relatives of the girls, who were abducted in April 2014 from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, in Borno State, while they were preparing for the Senior School Certificate Examinations. – Vincent Obia
