Ndoma-Egba: Buhari Needs Support, Patience from Nigerians

Former Leader of the Senate, Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), has urged support and patience from Nigerians towards the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ndoma-Egba said with the necessary support from Nigerians, the administration would succeed in getting Nigeria out of the economic difficulties it was grappling with.

Ndoma-Egba made the call in Calabar yesterday during an interview session with journalists on some issues of national importance.

Though the former senate leader admitted that Nigerians were going through some hard times, he pointed out that whatever pains they were passing through was ephemeral because of the reforms of the rot in the nation’s economy that has accumulated for years.
“I concede that there is a lot of hardship, but that hardship is not something that is created overnight. It is an accumulated circumstance.

“Things cannot get better without them getting worst. It’s like a seed when planted; it gets rotten before it geminates. We are in that process of germinating. So, the long and short of my summation is that we need to give support to President Buhari, and show some patience,” Ndoma-Egba said.

Ndoma-Egba, who was recently appointed a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), awarded pass marks to President Buhari’s war against corruption in the country.

He mentioned the stringent application of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the fight against corruption, and the removal of fuel subsidy as some of the aspects Buhari has demonstrated courage in leading the country.

Ndoma-Egba stated that even though the constitution over the years prescribed that the federal government revenue should be lodged in a single account, the policy was never vigorously pursued until when Buhari mounted the saddle again as president.

Ndoma-Egba said the fight against corruption was “just mere preachment and mere lip-service” until Buhari mounted the saddle of leadership as a democratically elected president, and demonstrated serious commitment to battle corruption to a standstill.

He stated that the removal of oil subsidy by the Buhari administration has dealt a fatal blow on one of the biggest infrastructures of corruption in the country.

Ndoma-Egba said the point to note about the removal of fuel subsidy was that Buhari achieved the feat without any form of street protests that was the lot of previous attempts at removing subsidy, a policy that aided corruption in the nation’s oil sector.

Ndoma-Egba said the removal of fuel subsidy further proved that Buhari was prepared to confront issues head on in the interest of Nigerians.
