Fire Razes Another Kano Market

Fire has gutted yet another market in Kano, this time the Gwarzo furniture market, destroying property worth millions of Naira.

The market was burnt down in the wee hours of Friday and the fire fighters battled for hours before putting it off.

Stalls and property were completely razed down at the wood section which is popularly known as “Yan Katako “ before it was put out by men of the fire service in the area.

It was gathered that the Inferno had also razed many shops within the vicinity of the furniture section of the market.

State Director of the state Fire Service, Alhaji Mustapha Rulwan confirmed the incident.

He said the fire started around 1:55am and destroyed 30 shops at the furniture section of the market.

“We got the report of the incident around 1:45am and our men in Gwarzo office were able to quench the fire around 3:45am on Friday.

“Our preliminary investigation has indicated that in an attempt to burn the sawdust, the fire spread to the shops and other places”, he said.
