FG to Provide 7 Radiotherapy Machines This Year, Says Adewole

By Martins Ifijeh

As part of efforts to tackle the dearth of radiotherapy machines in Nigeria, the Minister for Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has stated that the Federal Government was putting measures in place to provide at least seven cancer machines for the country every year.

He said even though the country requires a minimum of 140 radiotherapy machines to treat the over two million cancer patients, Nigeria unfortunately has only eight, out of which only two or three work at any given time.

Adewole, who said this while addressing journalists in Lagos on Friday, noted that the prevalence rate of the scourge can be reduced drastically, if Nigerians avoid factors that predisposes one to cancer, adding that people should improve their lifestyle, eat well and do routine check-ups.
