The Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, Prof. Akin Ibidapo-Obe, has advocated for the recruitment of more women into the Nigeria Police Force, noting that they were better equipped to handle domestic crimes, rape, child abuse and other gender cases.

Ibidapo-Obe said this while speaking on the topic, “General Principles of International Human Rights Standards for Modern Police Practice,” at a seminar and book launch organised as part of the 11th Biennial Police Games and Week,2016 on Wednesday in Abuja.

The law teacher counseled the police to be sensitive while handling cases that bordered on cultural norms such as female circumcision, which he said could not be described as a crime in Africa.

The Dean advised the police authorities to do more to protect the rights of children and juvenile offenders, stressing that it was not right for minors to be kept with hardened criminals in police custody.
