The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie- Oyegun, has cautioned the warring parties in the Kano state chapter of the party against creating a problem that might lead to a volatile situation in the state.
His caution came just as the rift that pitched the state governor, Abdullhi Umar Ganduje, against his former boss, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, seems far from receding as 36 state lawmakers and the state executives of the party insisted on Tuesday on the suspension of former state chairman of the party, Umar Haruna Doguwa and the Organising Secretary, Sanusi Sirajo Kwankwaso.
Addressing a delegation of the party’s stakeholders from Kano at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Oyegun said that allowing crisis to rock a state as sensitive and as volatile as Kano will spell doom for governance in the state.
“So it is in all our interest, your interest and certainly our interest in the national secretariat to ensure that the differences between two of our very very prominent leaders in Kano must not go any further and does not become yet another issue so that we will be feeding the press.
“Let me warn that the greatest disservice you can do to ourselves now is to be having internal wars within the party, internal war in a state as critical to us as Kano state. Kano is an important and critical state to the APC.
“The nation through no fault our is going through more difficult time. We took over in a situation that was worst than we expected. So all of us, all the party, the totality of the party must unite behind our chief executives, the President and the governors.
Oyegun said said the party has already appointed team of three led by a Deputy National Chairman (north), Senator Lawal Shuaibu, the party’s
National Secretary, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, and the National Organising Secretary, Osita Izunaso, to mediate in the crisis.
“I am also aware that the governors have also welded in. Lastly I am aware that traditional rulers in Kano State have also welded into this issue. It is a situation that we must not as a party allow to blossom. We must nip it in the bud because it is a most unnecessary, a most distracting a most capable of causing problem in a state as sensitive and to some extent as volatile as Kano State.
While making their position known to the national chairman of APC yesterday at the national Secretariat of the party, the Chief Whip, House of Representative, Hon. Ado Doguwa, who led a large delegation, made it clear that they decided to stand behind the state governor as the leader of the party in the state, “not because we hold anybody in suspect, but to respect the establishment.”
He said that the decision to relieve the chairman of APC in Kano state, Umar Haruna Doguwa and Organising Secretary, Sanusi Sirajo Kwankwaso still subsists, adding that Hon. Abdullahi Abbas has been appointed as caretaker chairman while Ahmed Muhammed as acting Organising Secretary.
The delegation included 36 members of the Kano state House of Assembly, members of the Kano elders committee, former members of the House of Representatives, 38 local government chairmen, 36 local government chapter of APC executives and 19 members of the House of Representatives.
