Former champions Insurance began the 2016 on a superb note, when they defeated Sir Wota FC 5-0 in the opening game of the 2016 Edo FA/FROT Group Federation Cup played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City monday.
Twenty-four teams are vying for honours in the competition.

Four matches will be played today with Royal FC battling Paulson while Phase FC and Impact will slug it out for a place in the next round of the competition. The other games are Okpella United versus Buffalo FC and Espanyol versus Saviour FC.
Champions BJ Foundation and the 2015 third-place team Crown FC are the seeded teams for the competition while last year’s runners-up Kukuruku Dragons didn’t register for the 2016 edition.
The second round of matches begins on Saturday.
Edo FA Chairman, Frank Ilaboya, said the football body had put everything place to ensure a hitch-free competition.
He stated, “We’ve made necessary preparations for a successful tournament. In terms of security, we have increased the number of policemen at the match venue to curb any act of hooliganism.
“We’ve also spoken to the referees on the need for fair officiating and we are not disappointed with their performance so far.”
The winners of this year’s edition of the competition will receive N500, 000 while the second and third-placed teams will get N300,000 and N200,000 respectively.
Ilaboya added, “The prize money for the winners is unprecedented and we thank our sponsors FROT Group for partnering us to revive Edo football.
“This is the first time in a long time that we are having such mouth-watering prizes. The clubs and people of Edo State are thankful to FROT Group for their support.”
