Plateau State House of Assembly has appealed to the management of United Bank for Africa (UBA) to remain in Kanam local government area of the state following an alleged threat by the bank to relocate its Kanam branch to Pankshin LGA over poor patronage by the Kanam community.
Deputy Speaker of the House who is also the member representing Kanam/Kantana constituency, Yusuf Gagdi, had raised a motion under matters of urgent public importance asking the Assembly to intervene in the proposed relocation.
The motion was supported by all lawmakers, and consequently the Speaker, Rt. Hon Peter Azi, directed the Clerk of the House to write to the bank to appeal to it not to relocate from Kanam.
Azi however urged Gagdi to go back to his constituency and ask the people to increase patronage with the bank.
A member of the community, Mohammed Yusuf Kanam, while thanking the House for its intervention said the bank was the only one in operation in the LGA and stressed that the community will encourage the people to increase patronage with the bank.
