Accolades were poured on Professor Anya O. Anya on his 79th birthday by friends and colleagues when Centre for Value Leadership honoured him for his relentless service to national growth and as a leader without care for title.
Anya, who bagged his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Ibadan, is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Chartered Biologist and Fellow of Biology of the United Kingdom.
While speaking on the theme of the colloquium, ‘Creating an Enabling Environment for Private Sector Led Growth”, he emphasised that instructions are the instruments that can move the nation from generation to another, sustainably.
“It is not the big things that define success. It is attention to the little details. And when they accumulate, they become big things,” he added.Meanwhile, the host and Founder of CVL, Professor Pat Utomi, said the ease of doing business index has become a good measure of the prosperity of nations.
A Zoologist since 1973, Anya has an amazing profile. A handful of such include his service as the first Director of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he took a bow in 2002 after 37 robust years but continued serving his fatherland. The septuagenarian was Chief Executive of many organisations and has been on the Board of many companies. He was the Founding Director of the Diamond Bank and was on the Board for almost 15 years. With these, there is no gainsaying then that Anya knows his onions and has grappled keys to managing organisations.
