The Governor of Bauchi state, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has said that Nigerians should not see leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as magicians who can turn around the country’s economic rot within a short space of time.

He said that instead, credit should be given to President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts and initiatives to address the rot in the economy, adding that his shuttle diplomacy has been able to shore up oil price.

Speaking during an interview with journalists at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Abubakar said that it would be unfair to judge the APC based on its performance just within the last eight or nine months in office.

“Well, let me say that it is unfair for the APC government to be judged. People have forgotten that the party that held sway before, held sway for sixteen years if there was any rot it took sixteen years to built. Therefore, people should not expect magic from APC, we are committed to transforming the country,” he said.

Still lamenting on the precarious state of affairs in the country Abubakar said there is probably no Nigerian who is not aware of the parlous state of the economy, with the dwindling price of oil in the international market permeating all over the society.

“The federal government and all the state governments with the possible exception of a few state governments like Lagos who generates quite a sizeable proportional of Internally Generated Revenue, but the situation we found when we took over was a very sorry situation.
