Senator Florence Ita-Giwa will on Saturday be honoured with a doctoral degree award in Political Science by the Executive Council Board of the University of Calabar for her many contributions to the political development of Nigeria.
Others to be honoured include the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and former Governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke.
Ita-Giwa, however, expressed shock that an intellectual community like the highly placed University of Calabar has been monitoring her political contributions to the entity called Nigeria.
In a statement signed yesterday, she promised that the honour would spur her to greater contributions not only to the nation but to the university.
The statement read: “To have my life pursuit and contributions in the polity and leadership of this great nation recognised by a group of constituted intellects is surely a remarkable expression that success is not classified.
“I am aware that the road of success, through sacrifice, struggle and passion, can only get a selected few this far.
“It would only be a dream come true that I contribute back to ease the pathway of success through promoting formal education.
“Upon this, I hereby consolidate this honorary doctorate award by building a stronger and closer relationship with the university authority such that would be rewarding to humanity.
“I pledge to be available in my capacity at any time, when called upon to support the school when the need arises.”
