Head of the Council, Sir Ciaron Devane, has said Britain has a lot to offer Sokoto state and Nigeria.
For starters, he said both the Sokoto government and British Council will collaborate closely in the areas of school leadership, higher and basic education, and teacher development.
Speaking in Sokoto Wednesday at a breakfast meeting Governor Aminu Tambuwal held for the visiting Devane and his team, the Briton commended Tambuwal for his foresight in prioritising education, saying the investment in the sector will pay important dividend in the future.
He promised that the British Council, which has been involved with Nigeria since 1943, will continue to work with all stakeholders to develop education in Nigeria.
Tambuwal said the Sokoto government and the British Council would expand areas of cooperation in education for the mutual benefit of the two entities .
The governor said his administration’s commitment to education remains firm.
“This government, as well as religious and traditional institutions in the state, have made education out topmost priority and we will ensure that every child gets access to quality education,” the Governor said.
According to him, despite its efforts, the state government needs help from all stakeholders to enable it achieve its set objectives.
