Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has described oil pipeline vandals and other saboteurs of national assets as “enemies of Nigeria” that must dealt with decisively.

Addressing newsmen at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS), DELTA, Warri Naval Base, on Monday, Ibas warned individuals and groups nursing any acts of economic sabotage to desist from such or have the Navy to contend with.

The CNS, who noted that his men were “winning the war against crude oil theft” in the creeks as illegalities had dipped remarkably, assured that the navy was fully prepared to deal decisively with the pipeline saboteurs and other criminals operating in the waterways.

The navy was expecting 50 new operational boats to sustain and boost waterways surveillance, he disclosed while commending the naval personnel for their doggedness in fighting all forms of illegality in the waterways.

Naval personnel on routine patrol of the waterways had recently intercepted two ships and made several arrests including some high sea pirates who boarded and hijacked a merchant ship.
